This HPCSA-accredited internship programme is designed to equip aspiring Industrial Psychologists with the skills, knowledge, and experience required to register as an Industrial Psychologist (Independent Practice) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
About the Absa Industrial and Organisational Psychology Internship
The internship runs for 12 months and provides comprehensive exposure to key areas of Industrial and Organisational Psychology. Interns will complete practical training across six professional domains:
- Organisational Psychology
- Human Resource (Personnel) Psychology
- Career Psychology and Employee Wellness
- Testing and Assessment
- Elective Project Work
- Professional Ethics
Participants are required to complete 260 internship days over the one-year programme while gaining valuable experience within one of Africa’s leading banking groups.
Professional Support and Development
Throughout the internship, successful candidates will receive guidance from two supervisors:
- An internal senior Industrial Psychologist at Absa
- An external Industrial Psychologist affiliated with a recognised academic institution
Interns will be assessed through logbooks and quarterly reports while contributing to meaningful projects that add value to both the organisation and the Industrial Psychology profession.

Absa Industrial and Organisational Psychology Internship Requirements
To qualify for the 2027 internship programme, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have a strong academic record at Honours level
- Have completed M1 or be on track to complete M1 by January 2027
- Be registered as a Student Psychologist with the HPCSA
- Be based in Johannesburg from 1 February 2027 to 31 January 2028
