MQA IT Internship Programme Now Open for Applications
The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) has opened applications for an IT Internship opportunity, offering unemployed South African graduates the chance to gain valuable workplace experience in the information technology field.
This two-year internship programme comes with a monthly stipend of R9 306.18 and is aimed at individuals who have not previously participated in any internship programme.
About the Mining Qualifications Authority
The MQA is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) operating under the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). In line with the Skills Development Act of 1998, the MQA is responsible for driving skills development within the mining and minerals sector.
The authority covers a wide range of sub-sectors, including coal, gold, platinum group metals, diamond mining, cement, lime, aggregates and sand, as well as mining-related services, diamond processing and jewellery manufacturing.
About the IT Internship Opportunity
The MQA is inviting qualifying candidates to apply for an internship within its Information Technology Unit. The successful applicant will be appointed for a period of 24 months and will report to the Senior Manager: Information Technology.
This internship is open to South African citizens only and provides exposure to a wide range of IT functions in a professional working environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The IT Intern will gain hands-on experience in the following areas:
Assisting with the maintenance of IT infrastructure in a Microsoft Windows environment, including capacity, security and network administration.
Supporting cloud services and Microsoft SQL database administration for various information systems.
Providing first-line end-user support through the ICT Service Desk, including workstation setup, software installation, password resets and troubleshooting.
Assisting with network, printer and IT security administration, including backup and recovery, firewalls and antivirus solutions.
Providing remote IT support to regional offices.
Conducting software installations and user training.
Providing general administrative support and assisting with business analysis and project coordination on the IMIS or ERP project.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
A Grade 12 or Matric certificate.
A National Diploma or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 6 in the Information Technology field.
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent NQF Level 7 qualification in IT will be an added advantage.

Successful candidates should demonstrate:
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
An understanding of education and training legislation.
The ability to work under pressure.
A proactive approach and strong attention to detail.
