Gold Fields is calling on ambitious young South Africans to apply for its 12-month Cadet Programme at South Deep in Westonaria. This internship forms part of the South Deep Social Development Programme and the National Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, offering unemployed youth their first opportunity to gain real workplace experience.
The programme provides practical training, safety awareness and hands-on skills development under the guidance of experienced mining professionals. By the end of the 12 months, candidates will be better prepared and more employable within the mining sector or other industries.

Who Gold Fields Is Looking For
Preference will be given to:
• Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) youth aged 18 to 34
• Youth from Gold Fields’ host communities, including Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, Jachtfontein and Westonaria Borwa
Host Community Requirements
To qualify as a host community applicant, you must:
• Be a matriculated resident of one of the listed host communities; or
• Have completed Grade 12 (NSC or equivalent) at a school within one of these communities
Candidate Requirements
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
• Fluent in English (spoken and written)
• Currently unemployed with no previous formal work experience
• Willing to work underground or in surface risk areas, including rotational shifts and extended hours
• Able to meet all pre-employment checks such as assessments, qualification verification, security clearances and obtaining a Certificate of Fitness from the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre
