Internships With The National Skills Fund

Here’s your chance to start an internship with the government organisation that promotes and organises skills development and training in South Africa. We have all the details for you.

The National Skills Fund (NSF) is a key funding entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training, dedicated to strengthening South Africa’s skills base. Its main role is to provide financial support to post-school education and training institutions, with a strong focus on funding occupations that are in high demand.

The NSF directs its funding towards skills programmes identified as national priorities in the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) 2030. These programmes align with the goals of the Skills Development Act, 1998 (Act 97 of 1998) and initiatives driven by the Minister to promote best practices in skills development.

The NSF’s funding priorities include:

  • Education and Training: Supporting learning opportunities that equip individuals with critical skills for the labour market.
  • Post-School Education and Training (PSET) System Support: Strengthening and building capacity within the PSET sector.
  • Skills Infrastructure Development: Funding facilities and resources that improve access to quality training.
  • Skills Development Research, Innovation, and Advocacy: Driving knowledge creation and promoting awareness around skills development needs.

Through targeted funding, the NSF plays a vital role in empowering individuals, boosting employability, and addressing the skills shortages that impact South Africa’s economic growth.

The National Skills Fund would like to invite all qualifying applicants to apply for Graduate and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme for the financial year 2025/2026 to 2026/2027.

The Internship Programme is meant to provide work exposure to graduates in their relevant field of study. The applicants must be unemployed and  never participated in any Internship programme – and must be a South African. Only shortlisted candidates will be
required to submit certified documents/copies on or before the day of the interviews. It is the applicant’s responsibility to have foreign qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

It is important to note that it is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all information and attachments in support of the application are submitted by the due date. Failure to submit the required documents will result in the application not being considered. Due to the large number of responses anticipated, correspondence will be limited to short-listed candidates only.

Applicants applying for more than one field of study must submit a separate Z83 form as well as the required documentation mentioned above to the relevant departmental website link provided. Applicants must meet the following requirements: have satisfied the academic requirements for the advertised field of study as detailed below, and should not have previously served as a Graduate Interns or contract worker in the Public Service. All appointments are subject to the verification of educational qualifications, citizenship and security vetting. Applicants who participated on the internship programme in the past will be disqualified.
