SASSA Beneficiaries Can Complete Biometric Verification at Local Offices

All SASSA beneficiaries must submit biometric information to confirm their accounts.  The organisation has reminded all grant beneficiaries that if they have problems submitting the information they can visit a local office.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has urged beneficiaries of the R370 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant who do not have access to data, smartphones or computers to visit their nearest SASSA local offices for assistance.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, SASSA confirmed that all its local offices are fully equipped to help beneficiaries complete biometric identity verification. This support is available through on-site kiosks, official laptops and guest Wi-Fi facilities.

“The agency is doing this to ensure that all qualifying beneficiaries receive their grant at the right time, to avoid unnecessary delays and eliminate frustrations,” said Acting Regional Executive Manager, Xolela Mpambani.

Why SRD Grant Applications May Be Declined

Mpambani explained that some SRD grant applications are declined when the system detects a source of income linked to an applicant. This information is verified through external databases, including those of financial institutions.

Beneficiaries whose applications are declined are reminded that they have the right to appeal if they are not satisfied with the reason provided on the system. Appeals can be submitted through the official SASSA channels.

SASSA Warns Against Scams

SASSA has also issued a warning to beneficiaries to protect their personal information, noting that scammers frequently target vulnerable grant recipients.

Beneficiaries are advised not to share sensitive information such as ID numbers, banking details or one-time PINs, and to always verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent SASSA.

SASSA continues to encourage beneficiaries to use official offices and platforms to access services safely and to avoid falling victim to fraud.
