About the Programme
The Mondi Work Integrated Learning Programme is a fixed-term, 6-month internship that offers structured training and development in preparation for entry-level operator roles within the company. This initiative is aligned with Mondi’s long-term focus on skills development, workforce readiness, and continuous improvement in South Africa’s manufacturing industry.
Programme Purpose
- Bridge the gap between academic qualifications and practical workplace experience
- Prepare interns for entry-level roles in plant operations and process optimisation
- Strengthen knowledge in safety procedures, chemical handling, and equipment performance
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for the programme, applicants must:
- Have a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Pulp & Paper Technology
- Have achieved a minimum 60% average pass rate
- Have completed P1 and P2 practical work (preferably in a heavy industry environment) – this is an added advantage
- Possess a valid South African driver’s license
Key Learning Areas & Responsibilities
During the internship, successful candidates will be exposed to the following tasks and systems:
- Use SAP and Microsoft Office for navigating training systems
- Apply chemical safety practices and protocols
- Perform basic plant functions such as:
- Housekeeping
- Pre-start inspections
- Assisting with plant start-ups and shutdowns
- Conduct routine maintenance checks to help prevent equipment failures
- Ensure safe process operation in line with Mondi’s standard procedures
- Collaborate with the production team to identify and resolve equipment performance issues
- Execute basic troubleshooting and contribute to continuous improvement efforts
