Doctors Without Borders is looking for passionate individuals to join their mission-driven team and make a tangible difference. If you’re passionate about media, communications, and humanitarian work, then this is the internship for you.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a global, independent medical humanitarian organization dedicated to delivering life-saving medical care to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, and natural or man-made disasters. Operating in over 73 countries, our diverse team of doctors, nurses, logisticians, and other professionals provides essential health services to those in crisis, guided by the principles of neutrality, impartiality, and independence. We also speak out about the challenges faced by the communities we serve, amplifying their voices on the global stage.

At MSF Southern Africa (MSF SnA), we’re a dynamic hub for recruitment, communications, and operational support. As we grow our impact in the region, we’re looking for passionate individuals to join our mission-driven team and make a tangible difference.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where diverse perspectives thrive. We warmly welcome applications from individuals of all genders, ages, sexual orientations, nationalities, races, religions, abilities, and other diversity characteristics.

What You’ll Do

You’ll support our Media Liaison Specialists in amplifying MSF’s mission through compelling storytelling, media engagement, and strategic content creation. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, global organisation while contributing to life-changing humanitarian efforts.

  • Monitor and share MSF’s impact: Track media coverage (print, online, broadcast) using tools like Newsclip and Google Alerts, and compile engaging reports (MSF in the Media, Daily Digest, Operational Updates) for internal teams.
  • Build media connections: Research and update journalist contacts on Prezly, map media beats, and support media-related events to strengthen MSF’s network.
  • Craft compelling stories: Develop and pitch stories to media outlets, curate content for medical journals, and create editorials and visuals that inspire action.
  • Support medical outreach: Manage content schedules, coordinate with designers, and liaise with medical journal account managers to promote MSF’s work to healthcare professionals.
  • Stay organized: Maintain archives, track payments, and ensure compliance with knowledge management and GDPR guidelines.
  • Innovate and collaborate: Contribute to brainstorming sessions, source content from MSF platforms, and work closely with the Communications team to drive engagement.
