Traffic Officer Cadet Training Open 2026

The 2026 Student Cadet Traffic Officer Training Programme is open for applications now – with free training and a monthly stipend being paid.

The Western Cape Mobility Department is inviting applications for its 2026 Student Cadet Traffic Officer Training Programme. This opportunity offers successful candidates the chance to complete a Further Education and Training Certificate: Road Traffic Law Enforcement through a funded bursary programme.

The 12-month training course will begin on 8 June 2026 at the Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell.

Training Locations Across The Western Cape

Successful applicants may be placed at various traffic centres across the province, including:

– Worcester
– Laingsburg
– Beaufort West
– Oudtshoorn
– Brackenfell
– Somerset West
– Vredendal
– Vredenburg
– Caledon
– Swellendam
– Mossel Bay
– George
– Knysna

About The Traffic Officer Training Programme

This bursary programme equips learners with the skills and knowledge needed to enforce road traffic laws and promote road safety. The training includes both theoretical and practical components, preparing candidates for careers in law enforcement within the transport sector.

Minimum Requirements

To apply for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following criteria:

– Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
– Valid Code B (manual) driver’s licence
– Be physically fit to perform strenuous activities
– No criminal record
– Be under the age of 35 years
– No visible tattoos or body piercings (except one ear piercing for females)
– Must be able to communicate in the dominant language of the area of placement

Please note: Pregnant applicants will not be considered due to the physical nature of the training.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a rigorous selection process, including:

– Medical, psychological, and drug assessments
– Physical fitness evaluation
– Driving and written assessments
– Interview process
– Criminal record clearance through SAPS

Candidates will also be required to maintain fitness and pass ongoing assessments throughout the training period.

Key Responsibilities

During and after training, cadets will be prepared to:

– Enforce road traffic and transport legislation
– Provide visible traffic policing and promote road safety
– Support crime prevention initiatives
– Perform administrative and operational duties

Participants must also be willing to work shifts, including a 24/7 schedule where required.

Skills And Competencies

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

– Strong communication skills in at least two official languages of the Western Cape
– Good interpersonal and public relations skills
– Ability to work under pressure
– Confidence and assertiveness
– Ability to work independently and in a team

Stipend And Benefits

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R5 000 for the duration of the 12-month training programme. Please note that this amount excludes meals and accommodation.
