SANParks Mega Living Landscapes Internship Programme Now Open
South African National Parks (SANParks) is inviting applications for its Mega Living Landscapes Internship Programme. This 12-month internship offers graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience in biodiversity conservation and environmental management.
The internship will be based in Cape Town, within the Park Planning and Development Unit, and will focus on projects in the Cape and Garden Route regions.
About The Mega Living Landscapes Internship
The Mega Living Landscapes (MLL) initiative is a forward-thinking approach to conservation that focuses on managing biodiversity at a larger scale while promoting climate resilience and community well-being.
This internship will provide hands-on experience in conservation planning, stakeholder engagement and protected area expansion. Interns will also gain exposure to working with landowners, supporting biodiversity stewardship and participating in landscape-scale environmental initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist with a range of conservation and project-related activities, including:
Supporting the implementation of biodiversity stewardship and cross-sector conservation projects.
Assisting with operational planning and execution of Mega Living Landscapes initiatives.
Using GIS tools to support mapping and spatial planning activities.
Coordinating technical support interventions for stewardship sites.
Contributing to awareness campaigns and capacity-building initiatives.
Assisting with project administration, including monitoring progress and compiling reports.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered:
A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Nature Conservation, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or a related field.
A valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications.
Basic working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Experience assisting with conservation-related projects.
1–2 years of working experience in the Cape Floristic Region.
Strong report writing and presentation skills.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
High levels of accountability and personal responsibility.
Willingness to travel as required.
Knowledge of protected area expansion and landscape-scale conservation practices will be advantageous.
Project management skills will be beneficial.
Internship Details
Duration: 12 months
Location: Cape Town
Stipend: R8 750 per month
