Office Administration Internship Programme 2026
The University of the Free State (UFS) has opened applications for its SETA Internship Programme, offering unemployed graduates valuable workplace experience in a higher education environment.
This 12-month contract internship is based at the UFS Bloemfontein Campus and provides qualifying candidates with practical exposure aligned to the Diploma in Office Administration.
Internship Overview
The W&R SETA Internship Programme offers 20 internship positions, with interns working 40 hours per week across various departments at the University of the Free State. The programme is aimed at developing administrative and professional skills while meeting SETA workplace learning requirements.
Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R5 000 for the duration of the internship.
Key Responsibilities
Interns will be placed in different UFS departments and will provide administrative support in line with operational needs. Duties will include:
- Providing general administrative support within assigned departments
- Performing office administration tasks according to policies and procedures
- Managing documents, filing systems, record keeping and data capturing
- Assisting with meeting coordination, including scheduling and minute-taking
- Supporting correspondence management and internal communication
- Using office technology and systems, including MS Office applications
- Responding to routine enquiries and supporting customer service functions
- Assisting with basic reporting and administrative record maintenance
- Applying organisational, time management and professional communication skills
- Complying with UFS policies, confidentiality requirements and workplace ethics
- Participating in workplace learning, coaching and SETA monitoring activities
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the UFS W&R SETA Internship Programme, applicants must:
- Hold a Diploma in Office Administration (NQF Level 6) obtained from the Central University of Technology (CUT)
- Be currently unemployed and not studying full-time
- Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Have no previous formal work experience
- Not have participated in any SETA-funded internship, learnership or similar programme
- Be willing to sign a learnership or internship agreement with UFS
- Be available to participate for the full 12-month period
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documentation:
- A detailed Curriculum Vitae
- Certified copies of qualifications or official proof of qualifications obtained (not older than three months)
- SAQA accreditation for foreign qualifications, where applicable
- A certified copy of a South African ID or passport (not older than three months)
- An affidavit confirming unemployment and no prior participation in SETA-funded internships
